Chigung

The Chinese term "chi" generally refers to the life energy as it exists in people, the earth and the universe. Chigung (or chigong) refers to various breathing exercises and techniques that contribute to human well-being and have been handed down over many centuries.
It is particularly concerned with the awareness of our own life energy, which is stimulated by these exercises and thus contributes to a better flow of energy. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a blockage of these energy pathways or meridians is often considered a cause of illness. Chigung can help in the prevention and treatment of various ailments.

A matter of perspective

There is no universally valid definition of the term "Chi" or "life energy". As a result, there are many different approaches and teachings on how to promote this special kind of energy. Our tradition goes back to the Shaolin monks who have successfully practised these techniques for many centuries.
The Chigung breathing science is also about sharpening your perception to become aware of your own internal energy, which will not be evenly available but fluctuate over time. This self-awareness will improve with regular practice - a little bit like the gradual (re)charging of a battery. Your own personal well-being and the progress you achieve as an individual is at the centre of these exercises that need time, regularity and patience. The focus is therefore directed inwards, this is about you and only you! Is not unusual to achieve a meditative state of mind when practicing Chigung.
